Deeper search and technical part views in bar nesting

Since October 13, “Bar nesting” no longer stops at the first plan it finds: it tries many variants and keeps the best one. The per-part report also follows technical drawing conventions.

An optimization that takes the time it needs

  • The calculation starts from the usual plan, then looks for a better one; it stops by itself once nothing improves, or as soon as it reaches the theoretical minimum number of bars.
  • Choose the duration in the “Settings” panel, “Advanced settings”, “Effort” field: “Fast (≤ 2 s)”, “Standard (≤ 15 s)” or “Thorough (≤ 1 min)”.
  • A window shows the progress; “Arrêter et garder le meilleur” (stop and keep the best) ends the search without losing anything.

On our test batches, about one batch in four saves a bar compared with the previous plan; beyond that, the search mostly refines offcuts and saw settings.

Per-part report: technical drawing views

  • A bottom view joins the front and top views, laid out in first-angle (European) projection.
  • Visible edges in solid lines, hidden edges in dashed lines, computed on the actual part; round profiles get a dash-dot center line.
  • Clicking a part in the report opens it on its own in 3D, and the 3D view gains a “Bottom” button.

All of this is open to everyone, with or without an account. Finally, the “cut-fab.com” link, at the bottom of the left rail, takes you back to the website; your projects stay saved in this browser.
