From the design office to the cutting table
One STEP assembly, and every part comes out ready to cut.
You drop in the file from the design office. Profiles are recognised, measured and listed with both of their cut angles. The sheet metal parts, for their part, are unfolded : you get back the dimensioned flat blank, with its bend lines, its holes and its radius, as a DXF ready for cutting — and each blank’s part mark points back to its place on the frame.
The file is read and displayed in your browser. Unfolding, however, runs on our servers: that step needs a connection. The sheet metal management that then arranges those blanks into your sheet sizes is, itself, still in development.

1D cutting — bars and profiles
A cut list becomes a cutting plan, bar by bar. Paired miter cuts (two mitred pieces sharing a single saw kerf) and minimising angle changes reduce both the metal lost and the time spent resetting the cut-off saw. Offcuts long enough to serve again are listed separately, ready to be fed back into a later calculation.
In development
Sheet metal management — 2D nesting
Placing sheet metal parts into your sheet sizes, with interlocking and edge margin, then producing the cutting DXF: this module is still being built. It runs, you can try it, but we do not yet sell it as a production tool — and we would rather write that here than let you find out. Unfolding, on the other hand, already produces usable blanks.

STEP import and unfolding
A STEP assembly opens straight in the browser: profiles are recognised and measured, and the cut list comes out without retyping. Sheet metal parts, for their part, are unfolded on our servers and come back as flat DXF, ready for nesting. Those two steps need a connection.
1D cutting
The cutting plan, bar by bar.
15 cut parts, 2 bars, 96.3% of the material used. The 45° miters of P2 and P3 are cut head to tail: a single saw kerf per joint, 80 mm of tube saved on that profile alone. The plan goes out as PDF for the workshop and DXF for the machine.

It works even when the workshop has no network.
The calculation runs in your browser, not in a data centre. Fibre cut, router down, site with no coverage: the cutting still gets done, and it stays on the machine.

What you are not risking
- No commitment. You stop whenever you want; there is no minimum term.
- The current month refunded, with no reason to give. If it turns out not to help you, you have not paid to find that out.
- The Free plan is permanent. If you stop paying, you keep access to your old cutting plans: you are never held hostage.
- Your data always comes back out. Exporting a project as .json and the cut list CSV work on every plan, including Free.
Frequently asked questions
What people ask us before signing.
Do my files go to a server?
For 1D optimisation, 2D nesting and every export: no, nothing leaves your machine — the calculation is done by your browser and projects are saved locally. Two functions are the exception, and they say so on screen: the unfolding of a sheet metal part and the profile recognition of a STEP file, which send the geometry concerned to our server for the time the calculation takes. If you sync your projects across several machines, they are then stored with us, encrypted in transit.
Is there a trial period?
There is no time-limited Pro trial, and that is deliberate: the Free plan never expires. You can even use it without creating an account. Its limits — 2 projects, 30 cut parts per calculation, a watermark on exports — are set so that a real small job goes through whole, which is worth more than a full account for two weeks.
How does payment work?
Today, through a conversation and then an invoice — there is no online card payment yet. That is deliberate for the first customers: it forces us to talk to you before we bill you. Self-service payment will come, and existing subscriptions will be moved over with no change of price.
What uptime do you guarantee?
None, and we would rather write it down. The unfolding and sync servers run on infrastructure we manage ourselves, on a line that is not a data centre’s: we do not sell an uptime figure or a guaranteed turnaround. That is precisely why the core of the software — cutting and exports — runs in your browser and keeps working when our servers do not.
Do I need to install anything?
No. Cut to Fab opens in a recent browser (Chrome, Edge, Firefox, Safari), on Windows, macOS or Linux. It can also be “installed” as an application from the browser, so it opens in one click on the workshop machine.
Can I get my data back if I stop?
Yes, without asking us. Every project exports to .json and imports back unchanged; cutting plans come out as PDF, lists as CSV, outlines as DXF. There is no closed format holding you in.
